CONARD STUDENT REGISTRATION & Course Selection INFORMATION

Principal's Welcome Letter:

Dear Students:

Welcome to the 2024-2025 Conard High School Program of Studies.  Choosing courses and course discussion is a great opportunity to discuss your areas of interest and pathways with your parent/caregiver. At Conard, we support you in cultivating your unique interests and topics of exploration. Conard Faculty is here to support your selection of courses as they instruct a variety of courses that meet the individual needs, abilities, and interests of our students.

Planning is an important part of a successful high school experience. There are many pathways you can choose, and, at times, it can feel overwhelming. Therefore, it is important to proactively and thoroughly review this booklet and discuss your options with your parents, teachers, and school counselor. Consider your high school progressions as you choose courses.

This document has been designed to guide you in planning your academic program.  We encourage you to use this Program of Studies to understand the various opportunities available to you.  Inside you will find pertinent information such as graduation requirements, course descriptions, NCAA eligibility requirements, and additional items with which you will want to be familiar.  The Program of Studies is also available electronically and can be found on the Conard High School homepage.

Challenge yourself by enrolling in rigorous courses and setting your goals high. Although the courses you select while at Conard are important in determining your direction after high school, it is also imperative to enjoy a well-rounded experience participating in various co-curricular activities.

Determination and Self-Efficacy is one of the Vision of the Graduate dispositions. Students who are willing to push themselves to work hard in the classroom and to take rigorous courses will be better prepared for any educational career or life choices they pursue after graduation. You should reflect on your goals and determine which courses will best put you in a position to meet your post-graduation aspirations while keeping in mind your overall course load and social-emotional well-being.

As you go through the course selection process, please talk to your teachers, school counselor, department supervisors, and administrators.  In addition, spend time exploring and discussing the various options with your parents/caregivers.  You are also encouraged to visit our website for additional information.  Again, remember to set your goals high and to work hard to achieve them.  During your four years at Conard, take advantage of the vast opportunities and resources that are available to all students.

Sincerely,

Course Selection Steps

Beginning Wednesday, January 31, 2024 and ending Wednesday, February 14, 2024, students should log into their Power School portal to view teacher course recommendations and make their course choices for the upcoming school year.

Students should consult with their teachers and parents while making their selections. All students will be meeting with their counselors throughout the upcoming quarter to review and finalize their choices. Please help us complete step one of this process by making your initial selections online by Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

  • Step 1 - view the instructional video (below) or read the Course Requests Instructions
  • Step 2 - if you desire, print a POS Lite and a grade-specific planning worksheet (both below) to map out your courses and credits. In addition, the "Connecting Your Courses to Your Career Pathway" link can also be printed for your reference.
  • Step 3 - log into your Power School portal, select and submit your course choices (electronic access is available in school buildings if needed)
  • Important Note - WHPS is an open choice district. While we strongly recommend selections match teacher recommendations, students may choose their own program of study. Please discuss your choices intently with your teachers, parents, and counselor in these situations.
